OxyGeneo vs HydraFacial: Which 3-in-1 Facial Is Right for You?

An honest comparison of the OxyGeneo and HydraFacial — how each works, where each wins, and why most North American medspas don't carry both. Includes pricing and decision framework.

HydraFacial gets the headlines — every celebrity facialist on Instagram seems to swear by it. But there's another 3-in-1 super facial that most North American medspas don't carry, and the people who've tried both tend to switch.

It's called OxyGeneo, and it was named "The #1 Facial in Canada" when it launched. We've offered it at our Newmarket office for years and our clients consistently rank it as the most transformative facial on our menu. This post is an honest comparison — including the cases where HydraFacial is the better answer.

What both treatments share

OxyGeneo and HydraFacial share the same basic design philosophy: a single in-spa treatment that combines three steps into one session. Both are no-downtime, no-recovery treatments that take about 45 minutes. Both are medspa-grade — they require trained operators and professional-grade equipment, not something you can replicate at home.

Both produce immediate visible results — your skin glows when you walk out — and both are safe for most skin types when performed by a trained practitioner. Where they differ is the how and the who-they-work-best-for.

How HydraFacial works

HydraFacial uses a vortex suction technology to perform three steps in sequence:

  1. Cleanse and exfoliate — a vacuum tip lifts dead skin cells and softens the surface
  2. Extract — the same vacuum action draws out blackheads and pore congestion
  3. Hydrate — serums are infused via the same handpiece into the freshly cleared pores

The mechanical action is what makes HydraFacial distinctive. You can literally see what's been extracted in a clear cup at the end of the session — which some clients find satisfying and others find unsettling.

HydraFacial is at its best for skin with visible pore congestion, oily skin, and acne-prone skin where the extraction step adds real value. If your main complaint is "my pores feel clogged" or "my skin feels rough and oily," HydraFacial is a strong choice.

How OxyGeneo works

OxyGeneo takes a different approach: it uses a CO₂-bubble reaction at the skin's surface to trigger your body's natural oxygen response (the Bohr effect). The three steps are:

  1. Exfoliate — a Capsugen tip removes dead skin and primes the surface
  2. Oxygenate — when the activator gel meets the Capsugen, it produces tiny CO₂ bubbles. Your skin responds by sending oxygenated blood to the surface — a glow you can see in real time
  3. Infuse — active serums (chosen for your skin type) penetrate the freshly oxygenated skin

The Bohr effect is the same principle that lets athletes train at altitude — when CO₂ rises, the body delivers more oxygen in response. OxyGeneo uses this to drive nutrients deeper into the skin than a topical serum normally would.

OxyGeneo is at its best for skin that needs brightness, anti-aging support, or a sensitivity-friendly approach. There's no suction and no mechanical extraction, which makes it well-tolerated by sensitive skin and rosacea-prone skin that doesn't do well with HydraFacial.

Side-by-side comparison

| Feature | HydraFacial | OxyGeneo | | Mechanism | Vacuum suction | Bohr effect (CO₂ bubbles) | | Best for | Pore congestion, oily skin, acne | Dullness, anti-aging, sensitive skin | | Sensation | Cool, suction tug | Warm, gentle fizzing | | Sensitivity-friendly | Moderate | Yes | | Visible glow timing | Immediate | Immediate, builds over 48 hr | | Availability in GTA | Many spas | Few spas |

If you want a quick rule of thumb: HydraFacial is the right call for texture and congestion problems, OxyGeneo is the right call for brightness and anti-aging. Many of our clients who came in expecting to want HydraFacial end up preferring OxyGeneo after trying both.

Why we chose OxyGeneo for Leslie Med Spa

When we evaluated which 3-in-1 facial system to add to our menu, the deciding factor was our patient demographics. The majority of our Newmarket-area clients come to us for anti-aging support and a brighter complexion rather than acne or congestion management. OxyGeneo's results map cleanly onto that demand — and the sensitivity-friendly mechanism means we can treat clients with rosacea, sensitive skin, or recent injectables without having to wait between treatments.

We also offer Eminence-based organic facials for clients who prefer a fully organic, ingredient-led approach. See our Eminence facial page for that comparison.

The honest note: both HydraFacial and OxyGeneo are excellent treatments. The difference for most clients is which one fits their primary skin goal. If you're not sure, our consultation includes a skin analysis to help you decide.

Pricing and packages

OxyGeneo pricing varies depending on the serum protocol selected for your skin type. We'll quote your full session cost during the free consultation. Most clients see noticeable results from a single session and book a series of three sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart for compounding results.

We don't push aggressive package pricing — most clients prefer to book session-by-session and see how their skin responds. If you do want to commit to a series, ask during your consultation about our maintenance pricing.
